Hunters Hill Rotary
The Rotary Club of Hunters Hill was chartered on Anzac day in 1958 with 23 members. Hunters Hill is the oldest and smallest Municipality in Australia. It is a waterside suburb bordered by the Lane Cove and Parramatta Rivers. Hunters Hill has a village atmosphere and is a vibrant progressive area that is largely a residential area. There are many long established family homes and modern waterfront properties. Hunters Hill is a sought after place to live: there are excellent schools, a hospital, cafes and restaurants.
Youth Programs
Our Club has always sought to be effective across the four avenues of Rotary Service.
- We support RYLA, (Rotary Youth Leadership) RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness)
- School debating competitions, , the summer Science school and MUNA (Mini United Nations),
- We have funded the final years of private High School education for five gifted students where circumstances were likely to terminate their education prematurely.
- We have hosted Exchange students from Japan (5), Canada (2) Germany (2) USA (2) Denmark, France, and Indonesia (1each) and sponsored student to Denmark (3) Belgium, Norway, Japan, South Africa, Canada, Sweden, Brazil and USA.
Community Programs
- We have supported local groups including Scouts, Guides and schools. .
- We participate in all community activities including the Moocooboola Festival, Wine and food days and Carols at Christmas time.
- Raised the funds and built the Hunters Hill Seniors Centre and later on extended the centre.
- Formed Hunters Hill Probus Club, the very first Probus club in Australia.
- Introduced Community Township awards and won a National Trust award.
- Awarded a Significant Achievement Award for Meritorious service by Rotary International.
- Supported the Flying Doctor, Respite care, Australian Rotary Health, Research into Brain Tumors, mental health and Riding for the disabled.
- Funded a 3 year Lloyd-Binet medical scholarship.
- Funded medical procedures for a local child which was not covered by Medicare.
- Support the Salvation Army Annual appeal.
Vocational Service
- Activities supported.
- Pride of Workmanship Awards
- Promote applications for Vocational Excellence Awards by District 9680
- GSE Teams where a team of 6 young persons aged 25 to 40 travel to another country for six weeks and are immersed in cultural and vocational pursuits.
International Service
Activities supported...
- Sponsored, Hosted or supported Ambassadorial Scholars (young University graduates) form Canada (2), USA (5) and the Netherlands
- Supported Polio Plus program to eradicate Polio worldwide.
- Sent a FAIM team to PNG to build a school class room.
- Supported Asian Student Nurse Recruitment program.
- Funded Student Education program and teachers in Tanzania,
- Funded Medical students in the Congo.
- Funded supply of Wheel chairs in PNG and the Philippines. . .
- Funded Shelterboxes for deployment to disaster areas.
- Supported Interplast and Romac, surgery programs for the poor in developing countries.
